Issued Italian M33 Steel Helmet
Italy replaced its flawed M31 helmet design with the M33 in 1934. The helmet's adoption quickly became the face of Italian fascism in Europe. Intially used during Italy's invasion into Ethiopia; the helmet would be supplied to Franco's Nationalists shortly after. Overall it is a simple design typical for the period, with three ventilation holes that replaced the earlier M31's "blowhole," the leather suspension system also typical of the time.Â
Helmets with a leather chin strap were produced prior to the 1950's. The M33 would be used by the Italians until 1992.Â
